FAQs

Trip Application

How do I choose a trip?

There are a few ways to choose the right trip for you. We think people have the best experience when they are able to use their talents, skills and experiences serving overseas. There are also some trips that are great for people who are new to the World Mission's experience. You may also consider choosing a trip based on the best time of year for you, or an area of the world where you feel connected. For example: Is there a place you love to read about, or study? Do you get excited and listen when a certain place is mentioned in the news?

Pray. Ask God for direction and confirmation as you consider this opportunity.

What is the age requirement to participate on a short-term trip?

We allow children ages 10 and up to go on our family trips. We also have certain trips that are designated for high school or college students. Other than those trips, participants are usually adults.

What does it mean when it says Buckhead, North Point or Browns Bridge trip?

This basically means that it is our hope that this team is filled with attendees from that respective campus. We find when a team travels overseas together and can come back and serve together in their church; it is more affective for everyone. However, you DO NOT have to attend that campus. But please keep in mind that attendees for that campus will be given higher priority and most of the team meetings will be held in and around that campus area. However, if the team needs people and you are willing to drive to the meetings, we welcome you to apply.

How will I know you received my application?

You should receive an email within minutes of applying, confirming that globalX has received your application. If you do not receive this email, please contact us through our contact page on our website, www.globalXm.org

Who is selected for trips?

Each trip requires a different set of criteria in their applicants. It is important that we place people on trips that would be the best fit to meet the trip needs. This could include looking for people with specific skill sets or experience or it may be a "newcomers" trip where we want those who are new to the world mission's experience. Please keep in mind that we receive more applications than we have availability. Sometimes we simply don't have enough room to take all applicants.

By applying, am I committing to the trip? When am I officially committed?

No, you are not committing by submitting your application. You have until the second team meeting to turn in a $100 deposit, which indicates your commitment to the team.

Do I have to be a member of North Point, Browns Bridge or Buckhead?

You do not have to be a member of our campuses; however, members will be given a higher priority than non-members.

Do I have to attend North Point, Browns Bridge or Buckhead?

Those that attend our campuses will be given a higher priority, than those that don't. You must live in the Atlanta area so that you can be an active part of the team meetings.

What happens to my application if I'm not chosen?

If you are not chosen, your application goes into a "waiting list". If a leader of another trip is still looking for people for his or her team, then they may contact you to see if you are interested.

Can I travel to another destination or stay longer at my destination?

No. Again, it is imperative to team unity and for liability reasons that everyone travels together.

Trip Preparation

What type of time commitment should I expect in preparation for a trip?

There are usually five to six team meetings. One of those meetings is a team retreat, which consists of at least 24 hours together in a team-building environment. This is an integral part of team bonding. Each team member is required to attend a minimum of 80% of the meetings.

When do I apply for a passport?

You need to apply for your passport now, before you are selected for a team. We have experienced problems with passports being delayed. If you are even considering going overseas, go ahead and apply for a passport.

If I need a Visa, how do I get one?

If you need a visa for your trip, your team leader along with globalX staff will take care of this paperwork.

How do I know what vaccinations I need?

You can find out what vaccinations are recommended by the CDC at http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/default.aspx. These are ONLY recommendations. Your team leader will tell you which vaccinations are important for your specific trip. You may also want to check with your health care provider to see what they provide and require. We do suggest that everyone is current on his or her tetanus shot.

What will I be doing during my trip?

The activities, goals and focus will vary depending on the trip. Trip descriptions can be found on our website www.globalXM.org.

How am I covered with insurance while on the trip?

You are covered once you step on the plane and until you step off the plane (upon your return) under a group travel insurance policy that North Point purchases for you. You are not covered by this insurance while still in the American airport. Your Team Leader will provide you with more detailed information regarding your specific insurance. It is imperative that you have your own health insurance.

Finances

How is my trip funded?

We ask that participants raise all of the cost for their trip. Raising support offers a unique opportunity to friends and family. Just as you are building relationships with people in another country, your supporters invest in that same Kingdom work by giving financially. Those that support your trip become a vital part of your team.

Can I pay for my own trip?

You can pay for your own trip; however, we encourage everyone to send out letters and try to raise the support. There is something about completely trusting God to provide your monetary need. If you want to give the money, we suggest sending out support letters to help others on the team raise their support.

What will be covered in the money that I raise?

All transportation, lodging, and food cost from the time you leave the states until you return home. Some of the money you raise will also cover some or all of the project costs.

Your funds will also cover International health insurance (which the church will process for you); however, it does NOT cover medical costs if you happen to get injured or sick in an US airport. It is imperative that you have your own health insurance.

Can I use Frequent Flier miles to travel with the team?

Unfortunately no. The team needs to travel together, for the unity of the team and other liability reasons. If someone uses FF miles they are not guaranteed to be on the same flight with the team. If you provide us with your frequent flyer number, we can submit this information when booking your tickets so that you can receive credit toward your miles.

What if I have to back out of the trip after I have committed?

Once the plane tickets have been purchased, you are responsible for the price of your airline ticket. The $100 non-refundable deposit will go towards the cost of your ticket and you will need to reimburse the church for the balance of your ticket.

Where do my supporters send their checks & to whom should they be made payable?

Your supporters can make checks payable to North Point Ministries, North Point Community Church, Buckhead Church, or Browns Bridge Community Church and give the check to you. Your supporters should write the name of your TRIP (not your name) on the memo line.

Support may also be given online a www.globalXm.org by clicking the "give" button in the top right hand corner.
